What is Montessori Education?
An Aid to Life...
The Montessori Method is a globally respected, child-centered approach to education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. It emphasizes the holistic development of the child; intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically - by honoring each child’s natural curiosity and unique learning path.
Children in Montessori classrooms learn through hands-on, concrete experiences that make abstract ideas easy to understand. Dr. Montessori recognized that young children have absorbent minds—they take in information effortlessly from their environment, much like how they naturally learn to speak their mother tongue. Just think about how your child learned to talk—without formal instruction, but through exposure, repetition, and meaningful experiences.
For this reason, Montessori environments are rich with purposefully designed materials and experiences that inspire exploration, independence, and joyful discovery. Dr. Montessori believed that the environment itself should act as a teacher, offering enriching opportunities for children to learn with all their senses. Children build strong foundations in language, math, science, culture, art, music, and social development, while also engaging deeply with subjects like botany and zoology that nurture a love for the natural world.
Grace and courtesy lessons, along with the emphasis on moral values, guide children in developing empathy, respect, and a strong sense of responsibility toward themselves and others.
An integrated curriculum known as Cosmic Education helps children see the connections between all areas of learning, nurturing both a sense of wonder and a sense of responsibility for the world around them. Montessori students are often recognized for their confidence, independence, compassion, curiosity, and academic excellence.
Toddler Program
(15 Months - 3 Years)
Our Toddler Casa is designed to support the natural development of children from 15 months to 3 years. With a calm, nurturing, and thoughtfully prepared environment, toddlers are encouraged to explore, grow, and become independent learners.
The Toddler Casa classroom is filled with natural light, toddler-sized furniture, and Montessori materials that inspire curiosity and purposeful activity. Children have access to beautiful outdoor exploration areas where they will engage with nature, participate in gardening, pick fruits from our orchard, and work in our organic gardens.
Our low child-to-adult ratio ensures that each child receives individualized attention. The program is led by a trained Montessori guide, supported by assistants who are trained in-house to provide a consistent and nurturing environment. Our Montessori guides help foster growth in language, fine motor development, early socialization, and emotional stability. Potty training is also introduced in a gentle and supportive way, following each child's individual progress and readiness.
Through structured routines for feeding, napping, and other daily activities, children develop a sense of security and independence. The Toddler Casa program lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning, responsibility, and connection to the world around them.
Primary Program
(Ages 3 - 6 Years)
Our Preschool Environment is designed to foster independence, curiosity, and a love of lifelong learning in children ages three through six. Building on the foundations established in our Toddler Casa, the Preschool program continues to emphasize Montessori’s Universal Values, Freedom Within Limits, and the Prepared Environment, all of which encourage children to take ownership of their learning journey.
Our classrooms are thoughtfully prepared with Montessori materials that stimulate intellectual development and promote hands-on learning. These materials help children make connections between abstract concepts and real-world applications, enabling them to explore language, mathematics, science, art, and more at their own pace. The Montessori approach encourages self-directed learning, and it’s not uncommon to see children confidently spelling words, writing in cursive, mastering the four main mathematical operations, and problem-solving with enthusiasm.
In addition to the carefully structured indoor environment, we place great importance on outdoor learning experiences. The beautiful outdoor areas at Blossom Peak provide children with opportunities to connect with nature, engage in gardening, and explore the world around them through outdoor play. This outdoor learning environment is an integral part of their physical and emotional development.
Our classrooms are designed to inspire a sense of order and beauty, featuring natural materials, child-sized furniture, and spaces that allow for movement and exploration. The indoor environment is filled with age-appropriate Montessori materials that encourage purposeful activity, while teachers act as guides, providing individualized support to meet the needs of each child. Children are encouraged to develop self-reliance, practice grace and courtesy, and collaborate with others as they grow into compassionate, responsible members of the community.
By offering a balance of structure and freedom, both inside the classroom and in our outdoor spaces, the Preschool program at Blossom Peak Montessori helps children become confident, independent thinkers who are prepared for the next steps in their educational journey.
